Abi Morgan and Jane Featherstone’s upcoming drama The Split has announced some of its key casting ahead of production kick off in the UK next week.
The drama’s ensemble cast will include Nicola Walker (River), Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me), Stephen Mangan (Episodes), Fiona Button (Lip Service), Deborah Findlay (Leaving), Annabel Scholey (Being Human) and Barry Atsma (Hector and the Search for Happiness).
The Split will explore the complexities of marriage and divorce in today’s world, seen through the eyes of the Defoe’s – a family of female lawyers living in London.
Walker will lead the series as a divorce lawyer who joins a rival firm after her mother (Findlay) refuses her promotion. Expect an estranged father, scandalous affairs and probably some less-than-ideal romantic connections.
Nicola Walker said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Defoe family and walking in Hannah’s shoes as she picks her way through other people’s marriages and relationships, all the while questioning her own.”
The six-episode drama will air on BBC One, and is co-produced with SundanceTV. While Morgan is best known in the television world for The Hour, executive producer Featherstone has worked on Broadchurch, Humans and River.
