‘Doctor Who’ exec Beth Willis departs the show

Willis joined Doctor Who alongside showrunner Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger in April 2009, working on Series 5 and Series 6.

She had previously worked for Kudos as producer on Series 1 and Series 2 of BBC One’s Life On Mars spin-off Ashes To Ashes.

Steven Moffat commented: “We couldn’t keep her forever, though God knows I tried. She is off to be brave and brilliant in brand new ways, and the sad news for Doctor Who is that it will be somewhere else.”

Willis added: “The plans taking shape for the next series of Doctor Who and for the 50th Anniversary are beyond exciting – and with Steven Moffat at the helm, this incredibly special time for the show is in very safe hands.”

Doctor Who exec Piers Wenger also announced his plans to leave the BBC to join Film4 in May.

Series 6 concluded for the summer break with ‘A Good Man Goes To War’ last month and will return later this year.
