It’s official: Peter Capaldi’s replacement in the TARDIS has been confirmed, and, after much speculation, it’s been revealed as Jodie Whittaker.
The new Doctor was unveiled, as promised, in the aftermath of the men’s singles final at Wimbledon, on BBC One. We didn’t get the full glitzy reveal show we had last time. There was no Zoe Ball building up to Peter Capaldi waiting out in the wings. Instead, the 13th Doctor was revealed in a far briefer segment.
They will make their Doctor Who debut in this year’s Christmas special. Steven Moffat has penned everything up to the farewell for Peter Capaldi in the special, and then incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall will write the first scene for the new Doctor.
That’s at least three Doctors we’re expecting on December 25th now. And a very warm welcome to Doctor Who for Jodie Whittaker.
