Sylvester McCoy has revealed that he thinks Doctor Who‘s TV movie failed due to his character’s presence in the 1996 story.
The Hobbit star returned as the Seventh Doctor in the feature-length episode, which introduced Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and was intended as a pilot for a possible American-produced Doctor Who TV series.
Speaking at the BFI’s screening of classic 1988 story ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ in London at the weekend, McCoy commented: “I think the reason it didn’t work was because I was in it. In order to capture a new audience it was too confusing.”
He joked: “It was all my fault! The guilt!”
