The third series of BBC One’s Last Tango in Halifax will feature a gay marriage storyline.
Starring Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid as love-struck septuagenarians Alan and Celia, the comedy-drama returns for six new episodes later this year.
Currently filming in various locations around the north of England, Series 3 will see Celia’s daughter Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) and her partner Kate (Nina Sosanya) reunited after their fractious relationship in Series 2.
As Kate’s pregnancy progresses, Caroline finally realises that Kate is the love of her life and wants to make an honest woman of her. However, Celia struggles to come to terms with the idea.
Meanwhile, Alan’s world is shaken by someone from his past, causing a rift between him and Celia.
Writer Sally Wainwright commented: “I’m thrilled that we’re going into a third series with really exciting new story lines that move Celia and Alan’s relationship forward with hopefully the same mix of gusto, comedy and drama.”
Sherlock star Rupert Graves has also joined the cast as a new character named Gary Jackson.
