Gotham will return for its fifth and final season early next year, with Fox setting a US premiere date in January for the Batman prequel’s last hurrah.
Gotham season 4 ended by setting the stage perfectly for The Dark Knight’s rise: the city has been abandoned by ordinary folk, with criminals running rampant all over the shop; Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon and David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne are among the few that have stayed in town to clean things up, and they even met on a rooftop to have a moody chat next to a giant searchlight.
We haven’t heard the name Batman yet, though, and nor have we seen a finished Bat-suit. We came pretty close in a hallucination last year, where Bruce saw a caped version of himself swooping around, but there is still a little ways to go before that vision can become a reality.
The final steps of Bruce’s journey towards being Batman with begin on January 3rd 2019, when the show returns to Fox with its season 5 premiere. We should stress that this is the American premiere date, not the British one.
Gotham always seems to have a massive delay before coming to the UK, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the British air date hasn’t been announced as of yet. E4 aired the previous season, but it remains to be seen if they will pick this one up as well.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we hear more.
