HBO’s new programming chief has confirmed the rumours that there will only be another two seasons of Game of Thrones.
Casey Bloys announced on Saturday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles that Season 8 will the fantasy drama’s last.
Bloys commented: “Believe me, as the new guy, if I could get them do to more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do [to make] the best version of the show.”
Game of Thrones launched in April 2011 and the sixth season concluded in June with ‘The Winds of Winter’.
However, Bloys did reveal that the possibility of a Game of Thrones spin-off is being discussed.
He said: “It’s not something I’m opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. But there’s no concrete plans or anything at this point.”
