The first season of Marvel and Netflix’s Iron Fist series was one of the least-loved collaborations between the comic book giant and the streaming service. Now, hyping up Iron Fist season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con, the producers have explained what’s changed.
As well as unleashing the first Iron Fist season 2 trailer and confirming the Iron Fist season 2 release date as September 7th, Iron Fist showrunner Raven Metzner and Marvel mainstay Jeph Loeb took the time at SDCC to chat with Entertainment Weekly about the evolution of the series.
Metzner said this:
“A couple big things about season two. Number one, if you’re all talking about the action, we really elevated the action. Also, the show goes out unto the streets of New York. We shot a lot in Chinatown in downtown New York and this year, we’re sort of out there in the world.
“We evolved all of the characters as well. We’re talking about the relationship between Simone [Missick] and Jess [Henwicks’] characters and we brought people closer together in a new way.”
And Loeb said this, touching on the villainous side of the series:
“I think the thing people are going to get really excited about was that Sacha [Dhawan] bombed onto the scene as Davos last year and weren’t really sure what side he was on. This year you’ll know exactly what side he’s on and as we revealed last night, some how, some way he has a fist of his own.”
As well as the elevated action, the clearer villainous angle the prominence of Misty and Colleen, we’ve also learned that Finn Jones’ Danny Rand will come into Iron Fist season 2 with a new crime-fighting costume (see: the image atop this page) and a higher level of self-awareness (see: Jones’ appearance in Luke Cage season 2, where Danny appeared a bit less dorky and a lot more wise).
When September 7th rolls around, we’ll be excited to see whether all of these factors can combine to make Iron Fist season 2 a more enjoyable watch than the previous season.
