John Malkovich has signed up for a role in The New Pope, a sequel series that will follow on from The Young Pope. And today we’ve got the first trailer…
Jude Law played Lenny Belardo, aka Pope Pius XIII, in Sky and HBO’s The Young Pope back in 2016. The role, which he will reprise in The New Pope, earned Law a Golden Globe nomination. Exactly how Lenny will factor into the story remains to be seen, given that he collapsed in the final moments of the previous series.
We first heard about The New Pope a couple of years ago, so it’s nice to know that HBO and Sky are now pressing ahead with the release. Here’s the first trailer for The New Pope…
Paolo Sorrentino, Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises will again write the scripts, with Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani returning also as producers.
As for story details, we don’t really know much. There is yet to be a meaty synopsis released for The New Pope, although that title itself provides something of a narrative clue.
Sharon Stone and Marilyn Manson are set to have guest spots in the show, which filmed in Italy.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
