Former Smallville star Tom Welling is finally coming back to bless our screens with a prominent role in Lucifer season three, it has been confirmed.

The actor has resolutely stayed away from major on-screen television or film work since he wrapped 10+ years of work as Clark Kent/Superman, but will now take on the role of Marcus Pierce – a well-respected police lieutenant – in Lucifer’s upcoming third season.

The character will likely butt heads with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) over his less than conventional crime solving methods, reports TVLine, as well as a potential love connection with Chloe Decker.

The show brought a new sizzle reel to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, which you can watch below.
