Disney has announced that it will launch its own streaming platform, meaning that all Disney-owned material will be pulled from rival service’s such as Netflix.
This is potentially a problem for fans of Marvel’s Netflix shows such as Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, which are ultimately owned by Disney but distributed via a deal with Netflix. While future series set in the universe will be available through the new platform, it’s unclear what will happen to those already released or in production.
There is also the question of whether this will affect UK viewers in the same way as their UK counterparts. For example, Star Trek Discovery is only available on CBS All Access across the pond, but is delivered to international audiences on Netflix.
That said, Disney appear to be dedicated to shifting their business model, having also recently attempted to purchase a significant chunk of Twentieth Century Fox.
