Katie McGrath has been cast in a recurring role on Supergirl.
The American superhero action-adventure drama launched on CBS in October 2015 and will move to The CW for its second season this autumn.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as the biological cousin to Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians.
McGrath will play Lex Luthor’s sister, Lena Luthor, in Supergirl. The Irish actress is best known for her role as Morgana in all five seasons of BBC One’s Merlin and has also appeared in Dracula, Slasher and Jurassic World.
Some more information about the character has been revealed by TV Line: “Beautiful, powerful, and enigmatic, Lena arrives in National City on the heels of brother Lex’s incarceration hoping for a fresh start. Lena has taken over as LenaLuthorCEO of her family’s billion-dollar-tech company, Luthor Corp, which has been tarnished by Lex’s evil infamy. Her goal? To re-brand the empire as a force for good. Lena wants to be seen as her own person, separate from her brother. Kara is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.”
The show’s creators have promised a huge crossover event later this year with The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow, now that Supergirl is part of The CW’s DC Universe, which also features Doctor Who stars John Barrowman and Arthur Darvill.
