Filming has started on the third series of ITV’s period drama Mr Selfridge.
Inspired by the life of charismatic American entrepreneur, Harry Gordon Selfridge, and his business in London’s Oxford Street, Series 2 concluded on ITV last month, averaging 6.4 million viewers.
Shooting began on ten new episodes in London earlier this week, with the exterior of the store filmed in the historic Dockyard Chatham in Kent.
Series 3 will pick up the story in 1919 just after the end of World War I and the first episode opens with a wedding.
Kate Brooke (Ice Cream Girls) returns as the lead writer, alongside Kate O’Riordan (The Kindness of Strangers) and Helen Raynor (Doctor Who).
Executive producer Kate Lewis previously hinted that Harry’s life will “unravel” in next year’s series: “We have some surprises in store for an audience in this third series. His story was a rollercoaster ride that ended rather tragically.”
