Titled Crossbones, the show is set during the 10-year “Golden Age of Piracy” from 1715 to 1725 and focuses on undercover assassin Tom Lowe, who is sent to take down legendary English pirate Blackbeard, Deadline reports.

The ten-part series is based on the book The Republic Of Pirates by Colin Woodard and features “an unexpected moral centre where one can’t be sure whether the pirates or the British crown are the villains”.

Production on Crossbones will begin this autumn.

BBC America confirmed earlier this year that it will co-produce a third series of Luther. The four-part mini-series will premiere later this year as part of BBC America’s Dramaville strand.
