It really is going to be all change following the Doctor Who Christmas special this year. We already know, of course, that it’s the episode where Peter Capaldi exits the show. It’s also the last Doctor Who story for current lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, whose 12 year association with the programme will come to an end at the same time.
Now, we learn that Doctor Who’s other executive producer, Brian Minchin, is taking the opportunity to make his exit following the Christmas episode as well.
Not that he’s jumping too far. Minchin has accepted a role with Hartswood Films, the company run by Beryl and Sue Vertue. It’s also the company that’s overseen Sherlock.
Minchin will be based out of the company’s Cardiff production office, and is going to be working alongside Steven Moffat on future projects. Chris Chibnall, the incoming Who showrunner, now needs to recruit not just a new Doctor, but a new executive producer to work with as well. We’ll get working on our CV.
