AMC seems to be developing a new show within the same universe is Orphan Black, according to a new report. Here’s everything we know…
Created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, and starring Tatiana Maslany as an entire crew of clones, the original Orphan Black series ran for 50 episodes across 5 seasons between 2013 and 2017. The show was popular enough to warrant its own after-show discussion series, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that a new project in the same universe is now in the works.
That’s exactly what Variety is reporting, with the trusted trade publication stating that a new show in the Orphan Black world is in the “early development stages at AMC”. The original show’s producers, Temple Street Productions, are apparently “onboard to produce the new series as well.”
Variety’s sources say that “this would not be a spinoff or reboot of the original series, but rather a completely new story set in the same world.”
And in terms of where the show is at right now, Variety states, “The producers are currently seeking a writer for the project and are looking to bring in multiple people to pitch different takes on what the show could be.”
Interestingly, Orphan Black was originally made by BBC America, not AMC. Neither network has commented on this news yet, so it’s hard to be sure of exactly what has happened behind-the-scenes here.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
