Writer Russell T Davies has confirmed that he only plans for his new Channel 4 series Cucumber to run for one season.
Starring Vincent Franklin (The Thick of It) and Cyril Nri (The Bill), the eight-part drama about the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life launched last week.

Davies told DS: “Cucumber comes to an end [in Episode 8]. It has a beginning, middle and an end – so you can write an article about it being axed!”
However, the Queer as Folk creator hinted that E4’s Banana has the potential to return.
He revealed: “…we’re talking about Banana because it’s an anthology series and I’ve loved discovering new writers and new directors with it, so that could continue… Part of us is dying to continue. I went into this saying it would be one year only for the whole thing – then you make it and you think, ‘Oh, it’d be nice to make some more of those’ and you’re tempted back…”
