Benedict Cumberbatch has discussed his hopes for the long-term future of Sherlock.

Cumberbatch told Empire: “I’d like us to finish on a high, but we’ll do it until we don’t want to do it anymore. As long as the ideas are still there and the audience still wants it…”

He added: “I’d love to do it into old age, I really would.”

Shooting on a one-off special will begin in January 2015, with Season 4 shooting later next year.

Cumberbatch says that the story ideas for next year’s special and Season 4 are “just phenomenal”.
