Set to begin on BBC One next month, the spy drama’s final series will feature new cast members Lara Pulver (True Blood), Geoffrey Streatfeild (Ashes To Ashes), Alice Krige (Deadwood) and Jonathan Hyde (Titanic), alongside returning characters Harry (Peter Firth), Ruth (Nicola Walker), Dimitri (Max Brown) and Tariq (Shazad Latif).
Since it launched in May 2002, Spooks has launched the careers of Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes and Rupert Penry-Jones, as well as attracting established actors Richard Armitage (Robin Hood) and Hermione Norris (Cold Feet). Notable guest stars have included Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Robert Glenister (Hustle), Hugh Laurie (House), Lindsey Duncan (Doctor Who) and Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda).
Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, commented: “Kudos created a groundbreaking series in Spooks ten years ago that challenged convention with its topical, fast paced, contemporary style. It quickly became a hit with audiences and established itself as a key part of the BBC One schedule and redefined drama on the channel for a new generation.”
He added: “On behalf of the BBC, I would like to thank all those involved in the making of the show over the last decade both on and off screen, and hope fans will tune in this September to see what promises to be a fittingly high octane thrilling finale.”
