A new rumour suggests that an Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show could be in the works, with Disney’s soon-to-launch Disney Plus streaming service being earmarked as its potential home. Here’s everything we know…
This rumour stems from Star Wars News Net, a fan-run website that reports “that an Obi-Wan Kenobi limited TV series is happening, is the next top priority for the Disney+ streaming service, and that it could be as many as six episodes.”
One of the things that makes this rumour seem very plausible is the fact that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie had previously been in the works, with Stephen Daldry of The Hours set to direct. We haven’t heard anything about that project in ages, though, and we do know that Disney Plus is a big project for the Mouse House… with those facts in mind, it’s easy to imagine executives looking for a way to combine the two projects.
Turning the Obi-Wan story into a series for the Disney Plus streaming service would give two big Disney projects a shot in the arm, then, so it does seem to make a lot of sense. But we’ve got to stress that this is, as it stands, strictly a rumour. Disney has shared no official confirmation.
The idea of seeing Ewan McGregor back in the role of Obi-Wan, slotting in a story between Episode III and Episode IV, has been on fan wish-lists for years. Here’s hoping that this rumour turns out to be true and we can finally see that happen.
We do know that Disney Plus will host The Mandalorian and a Cassian Andor series, both of which are set in the Star Wars galaxy, and we’ll bring you updates on all of these projects as we hear more.
