Stargate might be one of the younger franchises out there, but it’s hard to imagine a time when it wasn’t on our screens and it’s certainly been gone long enough to be sorely missed. The Amanda Tapping/Michael Shank-starring show SG1 is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and during a retrospective at SLCC last weekend it was announced that a new series had been ordered by MGM.
Following the footsteps of Star Trek: Discovery, this new series will be made available, exclusively, online at Stargate Command and will, like Discovery, be a prequel.
Stargate Origins will chart the life of fan favourite Catherine Langford and run for 10, 10-minute episodes. The shorts, if successful, could mark the revival of the franchise and give fans what they’ve wanted for a long time; a back story for Langford.
Success isn’t even a question, if the footage shown during the anniversary screening is anything to go by. It has a feel and passion that the original film and TV show won fans over with over 20 years ago.
