The 50th anniversary special took $10m at the box office in just three days.
Speaking at the BFI’s celebration of Matt Smith’s era in London last weekend, Moffat commented knowingly: “We’ve noticed [‘The Day of the Doctor’] did well [in cinemas].”
He added: “It’s great to see [Doctor Who] up on the big screen. Television just handed cinema its own arse.”

Matt Smith’s final episode as the Doctor, ‘The Time Of The Doctor’, airs at 7.30pm on Wednesday 25 December on BBC One and sees the Time Lord and Clara learn what an enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.
