The former EastEnders star will play the new boss of UCOS, DCI Sacha Millard, who “will need to use all her policing experience to manage her team of unconventional ex-coppers reinvestigating the Met’s unsolved crimes”. The character is described as “strong and not afraid to confront a situation”.
Redman announced that she was quitting the show last summer, having played Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman since the crime drama began in 2003.
Outhwaite commented: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast at such an exciting time – I’ve been a huge fan of the show for years – and can’t wait to be working with the amazing cast and crew.”
Executive producer Richard Burrell added: “Wall To Wall are thrilled that Tamzin Outhwaite is joining New Tricks as DCI Sacha Millard – the new boss of UCOS. Having another popular and talented actress to lead the team is fantastic for us and the viewing public. The combination of Tamzin, Dennis Waterman, Denis Lawson and Nicholas Lyndhurst ensures that the audience will continue to enjoy the antics of UCOS as they enter their second decade of pursuing justice for the victims of unsolved crimes in their own inimitable way.”
Series 10 is currently filming in London and will air on BBC One later this year, with Outhwaite joining Dennis Waterman, Denis Lawson and Nicholas Lyndhurst in the final two episodes of the series.
The new 10-part series will launch with a special two-part opening episode set in Gibraltar.
