The Escape trailer: Gemma Arterton in a mental health drama

The Escape, starring Gemma Arterton and Dominic Cooper, is a British drama movie that focuses on the mental health struggles of its protagonist, Tara. Played by Arterton, Tara admits to her husband (Cooper) that she isn’t happy, and that something needs to change in her life.

A new trailer for the film has now arrived online, and you can watch it right here…

The film, that has been garnering lots of positive reactions at festivals, looks like it could be something really special. It’s not often that mental health struggles are displayed on the big screen in an honest and unabashed manner, and yet The Escape does not appear to be shying away from its subject matter.

The Escape was written and directed by Dominic Savage, who recently worked on the TV shows The Secrets and True Love. This is his second feature to get a cinematic release, following 2005’s Love + Hate.

The synopsis for the film looks like this:

“Tara loves her children deeply and to all those around her, her life is seemingly perfect. But Tara feels trapped. She knows there is something fundamentally missing. Something unfulfilled. Something unknown . When her friends and family fail to understand the depth of her desperation, her ideas and feelings are so overwhelming that she has to run away, to find a place where she can be herself again. She goes on a courageous and perilous journey, leaving her husband and abandoning her children. Through a series of dangerous and incendiary encounters, she discovers the woman she really is, what she really feels and the life she really wants.”

The Escape UK release date is set for August 3rd, 2018.
