The Flash‘s John Wesley Shipp will return to the DC multiverse for The CW’s upcoming Elsworlds crossover event, which will unite the stars of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl as well as introducing Batwoman to the fold.
Shipp, who mainly played the doomed dad Henry Allen in the contemporary version of The Flash, is also known for playing Barry Allen/The Flash in the 1990 TV series of The Flash.
The modern show has riffed on this fun fact before, not least by having Shipp play an alt-universe Flash named Jay Garrick in a series of cameos. The character of Jay Garrick, in a strange twist of fate, actually outlasted Henry Allen (who died at the hands of Zoom) in the show.
Arrow star Stephen Amell posted these pictures on Instagram, confirming that Shipp is back in the Flash suit for the Elseworlds event…
Amell’s posts don’t make it clear exactly which character Shipp is playing. Jay Garrick’s Flash suit looks nothing like this, normally, so could it be possible that Shipp is reprising his Barry Allen role from the 1990s TV show?
The costume from the pictures certainly suits that era, and John Wesley Shipp’s own Instagram post seems to back this theory up. If you look at his caption below, you’ll see a reference to FLASH90…
All will be revealed when the three-part Elseworlds crossover kicks off on December 9th on The CW. For UK viewers on Sky, it should be roughly a week later.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
