The Purge film franchise, which takes place in a near-future America where murder and all other crimes are A-OK for one night of the year, is getting a TV companion series.
The story of this ten-episode Purge event series will take place between The First Purge (the cinematic prequel which launches in the UK on July 4th) and original Purge movie. The telly series will follow one group of people on a Purge night, with Gabriel Chavarria, Jessica Garza, Hannah Emily Anderson, Lili Simmons, Amanda Warren, Colin Woodell, Lee Tergesen, William Baldwin, Fiona Dourif and Reed Diamond making up the cast. “Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions, THE PURGE revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

Additionally, the entire team behind the blockbuster franchise are on board to executive produce: Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under the Platinum Dunes banner and Sebastien K. Lemercier. Thomas Kelly serves as executive producer/showrunner of the series. Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winner Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce the premiere episode.”
The Purge TV series will debut on The USA Network, over in the States, on September 4th 2018. Syfy has the British broadcast rights, but hasn’t yet confirmed the UK premiere date.
