Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes will say farewell to The Walking Dead at some point in the show’s ninth season, although it’s unclear as of yet whether he will die or wander off. With this huge turning point for the show looming, AMC has released an extra-long The Walking Dead season 9 trailer to tease Rick’s departure.

This season will also see Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee departing the show, which will leave the Hilltop community without a leader as well as the central gang.

Interestingly, season 9 also has a new showrunner in the shape of Angela Kang. She has overseen a huge change in the narrative: an 18-month time-jump that will thrust the show’s characters into a whole new world of completely fresh problems.

There are loads of big changes going on, then. Presumably, AMC execs are hoping that this overhaul can help the show make some new fans and secure its long-term future.
