The final chapter in Shane Meadows’ This is England saga has started filming in Sheffield.
Directed by Shane Meadows, This is England ’90 is written by Meadows and Jack Thorne (Glue).
Meadows commented: “We will see an enormous transformation in the lives of our cast over these final four stories as Shaun writes his final chapter with the gang he loves.”
Piers Wenger, Channel 4 Head of Drama, added: “We might feel like we’ve grown up with Lol, Woody, Shaun and the gang but what Shane has planned for them in these final four parts will ensure that they are in our hearts forever.”
The official synopsis for the four-part series reads: “Gazza’s tears. Hubble’s launch. Saddam’s invasion. Mandela’s release. This is 1990. This is England. And Lol, Woody, Shaun, Milky, Smell, Gadget, Harvey, Kell, Trev and Combo are back for the final chapter of Shane Meadows’ multi award-winning landmark series…
“It’s two years on since the less-than-festive Christmas of ‘88, with some of the gang embracing the new decade with more gusto than others. But a lot can happen in a year, and in true This is England style, the second summer of love soon gives way to a winter of discontent.”
Shane Meadows’ original feature film This is England was released in cinemas in 2006, followed by Channel 4’s This is England ’86 in 2010 and This is England ’88 in 2011.
This is England ’90 will air on Channel 4 in 2015.
