A fun little video is doing the rounds, showing Gwendoline Christie in 2017 predicting the ultimate throne-sitting champion of Game Of Thrones’ overarching narrative. If you’re ready to see spoilers, you can watch the clip right here…
In a paired interview with Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, which took place in the summer of 2017, the Brienne of Tarth actress Gwendoline Christie puts her cards on the table and makes a strong case from Isaac Hempstead-Wright’s Bran Stark being the person sat on the throne at the end of the story.

A particular highlight of the video is seeing the interviewer and her costar trying to talk Christie out of her prediction. She sticks to her guns, though, knowing that it’s in the nature of Game Of Thrones and the writers behind it to eschew the obvious choices and deliver unexpected twists.
And now, speaking to IndieWire, Christie said this about her prediction:
“I am slightly, pathetically thrilled that I got it right. When I read the script, I gasped and thought, ‘Oh, I was right.’… I thought it would be Bran because I thought it would be the least likely person. In my mind what Game of Thrones has always done is subvert narrative. As viewers we’ve really not known what’s going to come to us and we’ve not known how to predict it. That’s what’s made it so intoxicating. It’s the idea of the final ruler being someone who isn’t interested in power, who isn’t ambitious and therefore is entirely unlikely to become corrupted by power. That’s what I thought that George R.R. Martin would go with.”
If anyone is able to ask Christie next week’s lottery numbers, please let us know.
