Ghostbusters reboot star and Saturday Night Live legend Kristen Wiig has been linked with a villainous role in Wonder Woman 2. This movie marks the second solo entry in the DC Extended Universe for Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, with Wonder Woman helmswoman Petty Jenkins returning to write, produce and direct.
Wiig has been linked to the role of Cheetah, one of Wonder Woman’s most iconic adversaries from the DC Comics source material. Numerous characters have used the name Cheetah in the comics, but the most famous holder of the mantle is Dr Barbara Minerva; she’s a British archaeologist who gained superhuman strength, speed and senses when a ritual involving a Cheetah god rebounded onto her in a remote African village.
Often dubbed an ‘enemy of man’, Cheetah is something of a dark antithesis to everything Wonder Woman stands for. And since this film is believed to be set predominantly in the 1980s, tying in with the Cold War, it is easy to imagine Wiig wearing a period costume of some sort. Perhaps DC and Warner Bros will dig out some shoulder pads for her.
As it stands, all we’ve heard is a rumbling that Wiig is in talks for the role. If she puts pen to paper and makes the gig official, we’ll be sure to let you know. Wonder Woman 2 isn’t expected in theatres until November 2019.
