As the second season of House of the Dragon premieres, the show’s future is confirmed.
Last night in the US, and at 2 am in the UK, House of the Dragon returned for its highly-anticipated second run.
The show, a prequel to Game of Thrones, chronicles an internecine conflict within the ruling Targaryen House.
Here’s the synopsis for House of the Dragon Season 2:
Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series finds the Targaryens ruling over the Seven Kingdoms — and on the brink of a civil war within their own house.
Prior to the birth of a son, King Viserys sent shockwaves through the kingdom and declared his daughter, Rhaenyra, his heir. Once a healthy boy entered the picture, plans were afoot to make sure she would never sit on the Iron Throne.
Now, with schemes hatched on both sides — and the kingdom in the balance — viewers will see the house that dragons built and learn how they tore it all down.
House of the Dragon will recount the history of the Targaryen family: introducing them at the height of their greatness and power and then dramatising their fall.
Season 3 confirmed!
While the dragons only dance across Westeros eight times this year, it’s makers have also confirmed that the show will continue into a third season.
Ahead of the premiere, they took to social media to official confirm the recommission in suitably fiery fashion!

However, the news is no great surprise with George R. R. Martin talking on his ‘Not a Blog’ back in December about discussions for the show’s third and fourth seasons. However, whether those plans indicate a faster production schedule is not yet known – there was an almost two year gap between seasons 1 and 2.
House of the Dragon Season 2 airs weekly in the UK on Sky Atlantic and streams on NOW. The action builds to a series finale on August 4th.
We’ll keep you posted on Season 3 as we hear more.
