Idris Elba is pretty much a national treasure at this point, but he’s still known for action and drama more than he is for comedy.
That’s going to change, however, as he signs on for Netflix comedy series Turn Up Charlie.
The show is co-created by Elba and producer Gary Reich, reports Variety, and follows a struggling DJ and singleton who’s offered the chance to become the ‘manny’ to his best friend’s daughter.
Eight half-hour episodes of the series have been ordered by the streaming platform, with production set to begin in the UK this May.
Turn Up Charlie isn’t exactly Elba’s first forray into comedy, after his series In the Long Run premiered on Sky One earlier this year. Still, it’ll be fun to see how this one turns out.
