The show is to be adapted for Amazon’s Freevee streaming service.

Amazon have announced they have an American version of the hit BBC Two comedy Inside No. 9 in the works. The news came at the NewFronts advertising event in New York.

The anthology series, in which Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith both write and star, is being developed for Freevee. That’s Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service previously known as IMDb TV.

Inside No. 9 is being produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Lionsgate Television, the team who adapted Ghosts for CBS. BBC Studios’ Josh Cole and Angie Stephenson will also executive produce.

Freevee’s Co-Head of Content & Programming Lauren Anderson told Deadline:

“We want to do inventive, noisy interesting television and that show is one of one. We hope we can make a version that is worthy of the legacy.”

Fans needed worry however as the pair are executive producers on the new version. Steve Pemberton took to Twitter to say: “Let the fantasy re-casting begin!

Freevee’s other commissions include another series of crime show Bosch: Legacy, a YA series Beyond Black Beauty and various unscripted shows including Play-Doh – Squished.

The seventh series of the original Inside No. 9 is currently airing on BBC Two at 10pm on Wednesday nights. Plus, the entire series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
