Lady Chatterley’s Lover cast details have been revealed ahead of filming later this year
Netflix has shared Lady Chatterley’s Lover cast details, with Matthew Duckett (Confession) and Jack O’Connell (SAS: Rogue Heroes, The North Water) joining Emma Corrin (The Crown). The film is the first to be produced by Sony under their new deal with Netflix, and is written by David Magee (Finding Neverland, Life of Pi). The director is Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre (The Mustang, Mrs. America, The Act).
Emma Corrin plays Lady Chatterley and this version of DH Lawrence’s classic novel is said to be female-focussed.
What’s it about?
Here’s the Netflix summary:
Based on the classic D.H. Lawrence novel, a story well ahead of its time, we follow the life of Lady Chatterley, a woman born to a life of wealth and privilege, who soon finds herself married to a man that she eventually falls out of love with. Lady Chatterley engages in a torrid affair with a gamekeeper on their English estate, discovering more desire and intimacy than she thought possible. When she realises that she has fallen heart and soul, she breaks all traditions of the day and seeks happiness with the man she loves.
The book is famously explicit (for the times, it was published in Europe in 1928 / 29). Penguin books released an unexpurgated version of the novel, which resulted in an obscenity trial in 1960, the ramifications of which are still said to continue to this present day. The whole concept of obscenity came under scrutiny (as did copies of the novel…) but this film is not about that.
Filming takes place in the UK this autumn.
