LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special now available to watch on Disney+

Today is Life Day (if you’re a Star Wars fan) and Disney+ has released the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special to mark the occasion.

Thanks to the official starwars.com site, we can share details of today’s release of The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year on Kashyyyk, and LEGO Star Wars fans are invited to journey back to Chewbacca’s homeworld for a Wookiee-sized celebration of the galaxy’s most cheerful and magical holiday — Life Day!

The Force is very much with Disney+ subscribers, who are already spoiled by being home to The Mandalorian. If you’ve seen the trailer for this latest release (available here), you’ll know the basics:

…reunites Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose and the droids for a joyous feast on Life Day. Rey sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?

The casting is interesting (and thanks to Cinema Blend for the details): Kelly Marie Tran is back as Rose the resistance mechanic we first met in Star Wars: The Last Jedi; Billy Dee Williams is Lando Calrissian and Anthony Daniels is also back as C3PO. Helen Sadler plays Rey (no Daisy Ridley, though Sadler’s performance has been widely praised) and Omar Miller performs as Finn (no John Boyega). We even have Emperor Palpatine and Kylo Ren voice by original actors Trevor Devall and Matthew Wood.

From all the reviews, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is a treat for fans old and new, and a substantial step-up from the original 1978 version! If you’ve already watched, please do let us know what you thought in the comments.
