Lost in Space stays top of the Nielsens as True Story fades away

Lost in Space stays top of the Nielsen chart for the second week — we look a little harder at the figures

It’s as you were for the Nielsens December 6-12, 2021 as most of the same shows make the chart. Last weekLost in Space season 3 made its debut with over 1 billion minutes viewed, and has repeated the trick again, but what else happened.

The Cultbox data scientists made a New Year resolution to never repeat the same vaguely amusing introduction to their weekly analysis of the Nielsens, so in that spirit we’ve been inspired by Around the World in 80 days and set up a new analytics centre in the Reform Club. While they get the mainframe installed, we’ve borrowed their D&D dice to generate some random numbers for this week’s analysis.

Last week we were expecting Lost in Space, Camp Cretaceous and The Expanse to all make an appearance. Let’s see what actually happened…

This is the published US viewing data with our added analysis in the columns marked ‘*’.

Lost in Space stays top

It’s a second week at the top for Lost in Space with again over a billion minutes watched. The figure is lower than last week, and this is worth pointing out as most shows gain in week 2, particularly Netflix as shows release on Friday, whereas the ratings are measured Monday – Sunday. They’re well ahead of the rest though.

What else happened?

Hawkeye has taken second over Wheel of Time with True Story dropping a long way in the space of a few days. We tipped Camp Cretaceous and note our other tip, The Expanse, hasn’t appeared.

What might we see next time?

We still predict The Expanse will appear, we’d like to see Hawkeye pick up a better following (it’s a long way behind Loki at this stage) and while Lost in Space should still do well, our money would be on The Witcher. Not that we advocate gambling! Whatever happens, we’ll take out usual unique look at the numbers.
