We already knew that, for season three of The Crown, Netflix is shuffling its casting pack.
Reflecting that the new season will tell stories later in life of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Claire Foy and Matt Smith have departed the series. Olivia Colman is taking on the role of the Queen going forward. And now we learn who’s playing Prince Philip.
Tobias Menzies has landed the role, after some speculation suggesting it was going to Paul Bettany (scheduling problems, according to some, ruled Bettany out). Menzies has appeared in shows such as Doctor Who, The Night Manager, Game Of Thrones and Outlander. This, though, will be his highest profile role to date.
Filming will begin on the new series shortly. More news as we get it.
