The eight-part Metropolis series was from Mr Robot creator Sam Esmail.
In disappointing news, broken by Deadline, we’ve learned that the forthcoming series adaptation of Metropolis has been permanently shut down.
The big-budget series, based on Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film, was being made by UCP for the streamer Apple TV+. However, the production, which had been aiming at a summer start to filming is now going ahead.
UCP confirmed the news: “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision.”
Filming was due to take place the state of Victoria, creating an expected 4,000 jobs and the show had been partially cast, with Briana Middleton and Lindy Booth set for major roles.
Fingers crossed there’s some sort of remount when the writer’s strike is resolved. We’ll keep you posted.
