Marvel and Netflix will produce a total of 135 episodes by the end of the year, reports Deadline, with an additional 23 hours added to the production schedule.
These 23 hours will consist of more episodes of Iron Fist season two and Daredevil season three, while 13 episodes of Luke Cage season two and Jessica Jones season two, respectively, are currently in production in New York City.
The news is being reported due to its record-breaking volume for filming in New York – doubling the initial commitment first announced in 2013.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said: “New York is home to world-class entertainment talent and opportunities, and this historic commitment from Disney and Marvel Television studios underscores our position as the film and television capital of the world. These productions will result in thousands of new hires and infuse our economy as we continue our momentum across the state.”
Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO at Disney, added, “We are very proud of the success of the Marvel Television/Netflix partnership. Thanks to Governor Cuomo’s leadership and support of the film and television industry, we will produce a staggering 135 episodes by the end of the year, well beyond our initial commitment.”
