Netflix and Mojang have announced that they’re joining forces to create an animated series based on the popular Minecraft franchise. 

News of the series was revealed as part of Minecraft’s 15th anniversary celebrations.

Released in 2011. Minecraft is the best-selling video game in history, with players building, exploring and interacting within a three dimensional world of blocks.

No further details are forthcoming, save for the fact that the series “will tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new light.”

The CG-animated series is development with WildBrain. They’re the Canadian studio behind Netflix projects including Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising and Carmen Sandiego.

Additionally, there’s a Minecraft movie from Warner Bros. and Legendary coming in April 2025.

Jared Hess directs a cast which includes Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon and Jemaine Clement.
