Patience returns for series 2 on Channel 4 at 9 pm this Wednesday, January 7
Patience is back – with a new DI in charge and a series of tricky and twisted crimes in the city of York. This season Patience, our autistic archivist who helps the police with their investigations is thrown out of her comfort zone as a new DI roars into town to lead the team. One of our picks for 2026, we’re delighted the show is back this early in the year.
As Patience returns, what can we expect
There’s plenty in the press pack:
Motorbike riding DI Frankie Monroe has transferred from another force a week early and she makes an entrance. She is brusque and abrupt and not afraid to shake things up. She initially finds Patience irritating and can’t understand why the rest of the team want her onboard, but as Patience helps unpick some of the more tangled crimes she sees her value and warms to her.
As for Patience herself:
This season is all about relationships — old and new. Her fledgling romance with Elliot develops and they start dating though the path to young romance does not always run smoothly. In the workplace, though she is part of the team, she always feels she needs to prove herself. She will also discover a new relationship that will shake her to the core and make her question her past.
And turning to the crimes:
…a mystery leading to York Minster, a murder in the train museum and a trail of magic that ends in a chase through a Hall of Mirrors. The season finale sees Patience and Frankie held hostage by an armed escaped prisoner.
Ella Maisy Purvis returns as Patience, and Jessica Hynes (W1A, Miss Austen, Royle Family) joins the cast as Frankie. Other favourites returning include Mark Benton as Calvin, Nathan Welsh as Jake, and Tom Lewis as Elliot. The press pack linked above has plenty of interviews, as well as quick guides to the key characters. Enjoy the trailer:
