People Just Do Nothing, the BBC’s popular mockumentary sitcom has been officially picked up for a US remake by Amazon, it’s been reported.
The sitcom follows a group of London-based pirate radio station and the lives of its hosts, MC Grindah and DJ Beats. It’s created by and stars Allan Mustafa, Steve Stamp, Asim Chaudhry and Hugo Chegwin. Just last year it won a BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy.
Patently the show’s success has attracted attention from Amazon Studios as they’ve officially ordered the pilot for a remake. BoJack Horseman alum Mehar Sethi is lined up to write the remake and executive produce.
Netflix stand-up director Chris Storer is set to direct while original creators Mustafa, Stamp, Chaudhry and Chegwin will all executive produce the series.
The fifth and final season of People Just Do Nothing will air later this year.
We’ll keep you updated on this project.
