Exciting news for fans of the Police Academy films as star of the first few movies, Steve Guttenberg, confirmed on Twitter that the powers that be are devising a new instalment.
Guttenberg, who played Sgt. Carey Mahoney for Police Academy‘s first through fourth films, took to Twitter to address a fan’s plea that the series continue. Guttenberg’s tweet looked a little like this:

The series, which followed a ragtag group of unlikely recruits at – yes – a police academy, hasn’t had a film out in almost 25 years but the cult status around it has inspired hope for more instalments.
The last we heard the series has been stuck in development hell since 2012 when Tosh.0 director Scott Zabielski agreed to direct the eighth movie but the project seemingly stalled after that point.
How the Police Academy series jumped through so many pre-production hoops without anyone noticing is unknown at this point but Guttenberg’s confident tweet will likely be music to the ears of fans.
We shall keep you updated on the future of Police Academy and the eighth film as and when we get any updates.
