Dungeons & Dragons fans take note — a Ravenloft live-action series is in development at Netflix

What is Ravenloft
Dungeons & Dragons is over fifty years old, and in that time many settings have been developed in as vast a range of locations as can be imagined (multiverse, space travel, parallel worlds, shadow worlds, fey realms to name a few). One such location is Ravenloft, a Domain of Dread. As only D&D players will have any idea what that means, we refer you to the current official description from Wizards of the Coast (a Hasbro company). As one of the oldest piece of D&D property, the setting has had many revisions over the years, but central is Count Strahd von Zarovich. If you can’t guess from the picture above, he’s a vampire. We have no idea what Netflix has actually planned, but expect lots of challenges as heroes come up against Strahd’s agents and followers.

Described as a prestige fantasy series where adventure collides with gothic horror and tragic romance, Ravenloft and its Domains of Dread tackle adventure through character-driven stories of dark magic and supernatural intrigue. At its heart, the series follows the making of the vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich, whose story of power, love, obsession, and undead transformation charts his origins from tragic antihero to one of Dungeons & Dragons’ most notorious villains.
Wasn’t there another series in development
The same article confirms the Forgotten Realms live-action series initiated in 2025 with Drew Crevello writing and Shawn Levy executive producing is no more. The Forgotten Realms is a vast setting and easily the most popular in the game (some fans would disagree), and the setting for the Baldur’s Gate games and the recent Honor Among Thieves film. That series was originally in development at Paramount.
Assuming this new series happens, we expect a lot of attention, and perhaps a date as far off as 2028! We’ll keep you posted.
