This is in addition to the forthcoming movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
It seems that roleplaying adaptations are back in fashion. Streamer Paramount+ has just picked up an eight-part television series based on the enduringly popular Dungeons & Dragons.
The gaming franchise, in which humans, elves, orcs and other fantastical creatures engage in wars, treasure hunts and campaigns, began in 1974. Famous for its use of multi-sided dice rolls, these days the game embraces online gaming and streaming versions too.
This new D&D show has a big name attached; filmmaker Marshall Rawson Thurber is writing and directing the pilot episode. Thurber was responsible for Netfilx’s monster hit Red Notice and is currently working on two sequels.
The Dungeons & Dragons series, which has been in development for almost a year, was apparently offered out to buyers in November with Paramount+ commissioning it straight to series. The show sits separately from the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film from Paramount Pictures.
That stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant, and releases in March 2023. However, according to Deadline, the series is a potential launch point for D&D television universe of multiple scripted and unscripted shows.
We’ll keep you posted.
