A set of Return to Paradise interviews gives insight into the second series of the Australian spin-off
As we recently reported, it’s not long now until Return to Paradise series 2 hits our screens (next week). Ahead of a trailer (which we still expect) the BBC has released interviews with some of those involved.
Who is included in the Return to Paradise interviews?
As you’d expect, we get Anna Samson (Detective Sergeant Mackenzie ‘Mack’ Clarke), Tai Hara (Glenn Strong) and Lloyd Griffith (Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright). There’s also Peter Mattessi (Co-Creator & Executive Producer). As you’d expect, all are pleased with the reception for series 1 and the renewal, as well as suggesting this series is even stronger.
Samson picks up from the ending of series 1:
She’s kind of shell-shocked. It’s one thing to suspect someone has feelings for you, but actually hearing it from them is something else entirely. I’m sure part of her is thrilled, but it’s by no means a happy moment. She broke his heart in the first place, but he is now about to get married, and she was about to leave Dolphin Cove! It’s not simple in any way.
Confronting matters of the heart is Mackenzie’s blind spot — anything intellectually difficult, she storms toward; emotionally, she runs. Episode one deals with how she chooses to respond to it all, with the question of what will happen between her and Glenn hanging over the second series. All I can say is it’s not simple, and it’s far from smooth sailing.

As for Hara, his character has a dilemma:
At the end of the first series, Glenn is completely unaware that Mackenzie’s heard him confess his feelings for her, so he’s just trying to move on and follow through on his wedding with Daisy. So when she arrives back the very next day, it’s a whirlwind of emotions for him. There’s this relief at the possibility for them to explore their unfinished business, but it also complicates his relationship with Daisy at the same time.
Series two for Glenn is really this pursuit of trying to be a decent guy. He’s trying to do his best to remain loyal to both Mackenzie and Daisy.
As to Lloyd Griffith, we’re looking forward to:
You also get to see a bit of Colin’s backstory in this series, including why he moved to Australia and why he left the UK, with those two questions being closely linked. There’s a little insight into his life back in Lincolnshire, and the family and friends he left behind.
