Seven of Nine on the Enterprise-G

Seven of Nine and the Enterprise-G arrive later this year

Seven of Nine is getting to chart her own adventures on the Enterprise-G

While fandoms are notoriously opinionated and fragmented, we suspect a lot of Star Trek fans would agree Seven of Nine warrants her own show. The end of Star Trek: Picard saw her get captaincy of the newly renamed Enterprise-G and it seemed a new show Star Trek: Legacy was on the cards. Sadly, this now seems unlikely. But it’s not all bad news.

Seven of Nine will be back

This year marks sixty years of the franchise under the umbrella of Star Trek 60. While the main website has been generally quiet this year (so far), we have been promised plenty of celebrations. Away from the small screen, the world of Star Trek comics (from IDW Publishing) is refreshing its range, and we learn the main event later this year is delivering what fans want. We quote the io9 piece linked:

IDW will celebrate Star Trek‘s big anniversary with a relaunch of its main Trek title with a new creative team and storyline—as well as an accompanying sister series—that will follow the adventures of the USS Enterprise-G and its captain, Seven of Nine, after the events of Star Trek: Picard‘s final season and pick up on fan demand to see the 25th-century adventures of the latest addition to the venerable line of starships Enterprise.

Written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Dennis Menheere and lettering by Jodie Troutman, the new Star Trek ongoing will see Seven lead the Enterprise on a top-secret mission to a hidden region of space, beyond the four charted quadrants of the Star Trek galaxy as we know it, to investigate a mysterious power that threatens to unravel the Federation.

And there’s more

The new range won’t see Raffi Musiker onboard the Enterprise-G. Instead Seven’s partner has her own comic series — Star Trek: Zero Point. Written by Charlie Jane Anders, Zero Point will be set during the time Seven of Nine has taken the Enterprise beyond the reaches of the known galaxy and will follow another familiar face: her partner Raffi Musiker, who has been tasked with leading a new crew aboard a starship tasked with a similarly risky endeavour: using a new predictive artificial intelligence built to (wearing a mysterious, but familiar face) be the vanguard defending the Federation from the threats of tomorrow before they even begin.

While we’d still prefer a live-action series (or even animated?) this at least shows some life in the franchise going forward.
