Space Force is being renewed for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They also report production is moving to Vancouver from Los Angeles to reduce costs.
This makes it two out of two for show creator Greg Daniels, whose Amazon Prime Show Upload has also been renewed. The same source reports Hiscock will be joining Daniels as co-showrunner for the Netflix series. The two have worked together before, and Norm’s credits include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation, People of Earth and King of the Hill. Steve Carell is back as General Mark R Naird, as are (at the time of writing) John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers and Jimmy O. Yang. Yang will also be joining the writing staff.
Space Force gained a mixed reception on launch: critics weren’t impressed, the audience liked it. A quick look at Rotten Tomatoes shows a measly 38% rating among critics, compared to a 75% audience score. By comparison, Upload scores 87% / 86%V respectively.
Space Force was conceived by Carell and Daniels as a response to Donald Trump’s order to establish the space force as the sixth military branch. The two of them worked together on the Us version of The Office, a runaway success (for completeness scoring 81% / 90%).
We’ll bring you news of the direction the is taking for the second series, as well as a likely release date as soon as we have it.
