CBS TV Productions have made an overall deal with producer Alex Kurtzman to expand the Star Trek franchise beyond the successful series, Discovery and extending his initial five year deal.

One project could see Patrick Stewart reprise his role as fan favourite Captain Jean Luc Picard in a currently unknown capacity. However, this project has yet to be green lit.

In addition to this, Alex Kurtzman will replace Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts as showrunner as Discovery enters its second series. How this will impact the development of other projects remains to be seen.
