Star Wars: Visions answers the question you might not have asked — what would the epic universe look like as an anime?
Disney+ has dropped an Original Trailer for new anime Star Wars: Visions and it looks as you might expect — Star Wars as an anime. Is this something you never knew you needed? If you aren’t an anime fan, now might be the chance to test your opinion:
Reimagine the galaxy with #StarWarsVisions, an Original Series featuring stories from seven visionary Japanese anime studios, streaming September 22
Watching the trailer, we learn there are seven studios involved in creating nine stories. There’s plenty of fan debate as to the canonicity of these (if that matters, plenty of shows don’t have a canon), but it’s clear, even from this short example, studios have taken risks with the freedom to tell their own stories against the broad framework Lucasfilms provides.
The short animations can be watched with either the original Japanese cast or dubbed into English. As you might expect, there’s a lot more information on the Star Wars site, including cast details and episode titles.
Our view — if you can have Star Wars: Lego movies, then roll-on Star Wars: Visions. If you aren’t interested, don’t watch it. For now check out the trailer.
